Otherwise known as spaghetti with meat sauce, this recipe is a surefire winner (especially with children).
Servings: 6
Yield: 14 cups (3.4L)
1 medium onion, chopped
2 cloves garlic, chopped
1 tsp (2g) basil
1 tsp (2g) oregano
1 tsp (1g) marjoram
1/2 tsp (2g) black pepper
1 lb (455g) uncooked ground beef, extra lean, or ground light meat turkey
3 cups (784g) tinned tomatoes, (1 28-ounce can)
2 cups (425g) tomato sauce, (1 15-ounce can)
1 lb (455g) spaghetti, uncooked
1/2 cup (60g) Parmesan cheese
Spray a nonstick skillet with vegetable oil spray. Add onions and garlic and cook over medium heat for 5–10 minutes, until onions are soft and brown. Add basil, oregano, marjoram and pepper.
Increase heat to high. Add ground beef or ground turkey and cook until the meat turns brown.
Add tomatoes and tomato sauce and cook, covered for 45 minutes, stirring occasionally. The sauce will thicken as it cooks.
Cook pasta in rapidly boiling water until done. Drain and transfer into a large serving dish.
Pour sauce over pasta and top with Parmesan cheese.
